Ronnie and Rupert, a snippet

Feb 12, 2012 16:55

After I wrote The Need to Believe, I tried to write more about Ronnie and Giles. This snippet is as far as I got, but I like it. A far better story about these two was written by Thecarlysutra, see Believe It Or Not (The Courtship of Rupert Giles Remix)

This snippet is FRC, Young Giles/OFC. Giles belongs to Joss and not to me. I make no money, I have no rights.

“I, er, I was w-wondering if you’d like to, er, if you would consider going with m-m-me- oh bugger. If you n-not b-busy this Friday, I thought perhaps we could….”

“Rupert?”

Rupert spun around, blushing. He had thought Veronica was out. She was smiling at him, probably laughing at his complete idiocy, but he couldn’t help smiling back. Rupert desperately wished he were older. Grown men didn’t have to practice before asking a girl out. Grown men didn’t stutter like great bloody pillocks when they were speaking to the most beautiful girl in the world. And Ronnie was so beautiful.

“Are you asking one of your mother’s best chairs to walk out with you, then?” Veronica asked with a teasing smile.

“I, er,” Rupert said. Why was he so bloody stupid?

“You make a lovely couple,” Veronica said. “But if the chair has plans for Friday, maybe you’d like to go to the cinema with me instead.
