Sitting in the rafters, I eye the wool below.
Lighting a cigarette, the smoke curling around me and lifting away into the holy air.
Smiling, as I aim to send ashes down among them.
The words rise and fall and the emotions raise beyond scales and tap on my shoulder whispering of wisdom and freedom and enlightenment.
Faith and hope falling upon this soul that no longer beats.
Scaling the wall, I stop to spy into his downcast eyes.
A sneer etches my lips as I gloat in his fruitless actions.
A wolf sitting among the sheep, I eye each as they lower their heads and clasp their hands.
Kneeling before the altar as to avoid any signs of deception- I slightly cringe at the possibility.
The words rise and fall and the emotions raise beyond scales and tap on my shoulder whispering of wisdom and freedom and enlightenment.
Among the sound and beauty I picture the destruction of it all.
Witnessing myself lashing out and tearing the symbols,
the carpet pulled away to reveal the flat concrete lying beneath.
Paint peeling as flame climbs and sufficates the air.
Faith and hope falling upon this soul that no longer beats.
The couldrin bubbles as I put out the cigarette and push my way through the heavy doors.
My breathe catches and the wind nearly sends me reeling; the rain pelting down and soaking through.
Among the sound and beauty I picture the destruction of it all.
Kneeling before an invisible altar-
my head raised and arms outstretched
My mouth opens for the world to fall into as I scream.
The sound of falling tears and music masks the lost desperation.
Screaming not for forgiveness and acceptance
Longing for understanding and absolution.
A reality that no longer is and never was.
A curtain raised; a heart sold; a crumbled soul.
Tightening my jacket, I light another.
Stepping off the curb, I refuse to turn back for fear of rejection.
