An opinion about the FLDS,Texas, marriage and some other stuff

Jun 03, 2008 23:02

I don't agree with the decision of the Texas judges to send all of the kids back to their families. I think that FLDS is prone to abuses, and that their leaders don't value families any more than the rest of us. There is no reason anywhere that any fourteen year old girl or boy needs to be married. They shoyld be in school getting an education REGARDLESS of religious practices, chistian, hindu, OR muslim.

There is an inherent inequality about the relationship of a teenage girl with a limited education and a fortysomething man who has been out in the world. That's why there are age limits for consent and minimum ages for the privileges of adulthood. I don't give a fuck what they did back in the day. That was then, and this is now, and a 14 year old girl is not a consenting adult.

Are families sacred or aren't they? How can you have sealed celestial marriages and eternal families when you parceling out women and children as rewards like so many cookies at a kindergarten?

That is as cynical, hypocritical and as self-serving as anything our current leadership can do. I'd also like to see the parental consent removed from the equation and just have 18 as the minimum age to get married. Parental consent does not mean shit when one has a bug-eyed self-proclaimed-prophet wielding salvation like a baseball bat.

I wish humanity would grow up and stop believing the bullshit that comes from the mouths of loud scumbags who dream up a bunch of malarkey and use it to claim that they have the ear of the Lord. Who says Warren Jeffs has a direct connection to what God wants? What does God really want anyway? Does God want a half grown adolescent girl to be married and pregnant? My father wasn't perfect but he does want me to have an education and a career, because sometimes husbands die, or sometimes husbands leave, and you have to be able to look out for yourself.

I don't believe Warren Jeffs and Jesus are on speaking terms. Warren Jeffs took power from the hands of his sick father and went crazy with it. These girls don't have the education of a Diana Barry and wear clothes that Anne of Green Gables would think were ugly. I don't know if they would even be allowed to read the Anne of Green Gables books, after all, Anne gets to go to Queen's Academy and Redmond College as well as be a teacher and the principal of a school before she marries Gilbert Blythe.

There's a number of things that I don't understand about modern life anyway, but let's start with the sacred cow of marriage. I've seen people popping out babies like it's nothing, but marriage is "sacred" and "forever". I don't think gay people can really do any more harm to marriage than straight people have with our screwing around and our divorces.

I don't know why people don't give the same amount of thought to having kids sometimes. I knew a bunch of girls in my high school graduating class who got pregnant in school, and I honestly don't understand what they needed with a kid at that age. I didn't know much when i was 17 and I know how much I don't know now i'm 30.

I babysat for my cousins at that age and I knew i wasn't ready AT ALL. I lost my temper the other day and broke my telephone, and panes of glass in a door. I think that's one of the main reasons I question my fitness to be a parent, becaus i am deathly afraid of losing my temper for some minuscule reason and beating up a child.
