First of all, I'm sorry if you've messaged me or written me a comment on any of my
fics on AO3 in the last, ooh... five to ten years. I occasionally check my AO3 email folder and smile at the notifications. That's pretty much been the extent of my fandom involvement of late, and by late I mean the last decade.
Holy crap, do I feel old.
Life has not been stable enough - I have not been stable enough - to sustain a fandom habit for literal years, but finally I seem to be out of the woods of young adult madness and out into the well-maintained lawn of being a proper grown up. The main perk of being a proper grown up is having a decent job, and the best part about my job is that it is compatible with podcast listening.
It is a long old day and a long old week at this job, so I tore through the entirety of The Guilty Feminist and No Such Thing As A Fish, both very funny podcasts and worth a listen. Then I happened to spot Potterless, which is the journey of a guy reading Harry Potter for the first time. He reads a few chapters and then chats about his experience with a more knowledgeable guest. It is occasionally madly frustrating, but gloriously nostalgic.
Then I found The Potterotica Podcast, which is the story of three fandom newbies getting slowly sucked in to the mad word of smutty fanfic. Also gloriously nostalgic for me, and filthy, and funny, and sometimes cringe.
Then this week I remembered that Podfics were a thing. So I have been listening to Snarry, and when I'm not doing that I'm nose deep in my unfinished fic folder. I am fully up to my eyeballs in HP madness, for the first time in ages.
AND NOW. Now I have done a mad thing, and signed up for a fest.
I am optimistic that I am going to nail the deadline, write like a wild thing, and be in total control at all times. Wish me luck!
