For Michael

Apr 27, 2005 21:50

Anya skipped class Wednesday morning. It wasn't something she usually did, but this was important. She drove in to the shop, parking and hurrying in. With a smile at Michael, she started moving about the store, grabbing things. Herbs. Candles. Powders. Sand. Chicken feet ( Read more... )

Michael watches her move through the store, gathering spell components. He's worked at the shop long enough to know that these aren't just random ingredients, either.

When Anya comes back from the kitchen with a plate, and then begins to paint, he wanders over and sits down in the chair next to her.

"Whatcha doing?"

"Painting my engagement ring."

She looks up at him assessingly. He's got innate power what with the alien thing. He'll do.

He could be a smartass about it, but his curiosity gets the better of him.

"Why?" He doesn't ask what engagement ring. He's pretty sure that Ray didn't come to his senses and propose. He can't really figure out what the guy was thinking, breaking up with a chick as hot as his boss.

So he figures it has to be from her engagement to someone else. Xander, probably, since that's the only engagement he knows of.

"To do a spell to create a temporal fold to go back to Sunnydale and get it and bring it forth."

She adds a daub of paint to make it sparkle a bit.

"I need a secondary. You'll do."

"A temporal wha? Never mind. What's a secondary do?" Michael is fascinated, now. He hasn't had a chance to actually see a spell being done, even after working here this long.

"A temporal fold. You can't say nevermind and be a secondary." She glares at him. "Pay attention."

"Sorry. Paying attention. Temporal fold. Got it."

"I lost my ring when Sunnydale fell into the hellmouth. It was in my jewelry box on top of my dresser. So. This is a representation of it. As my secondary, we both call on Eryishon, the Endless One, offer up the standard supplication, which I'll teach you, then there's a teensy temporal fold. We hope. Then I pour the sacred sand on the representation of the necklace, and Eryishon brings it forth from the time and place it was lost."

He looks doubtful. "I can't screw this up, can I?"

She sighs. "Not if you do what I tell you. It's a simple spell, I just need a second person. You'll see stuff, stuff from then. It might be scary--demons and such. Just keep holding my hands and don't spill the powder and it'll be fine."

He nods. "Okay. I can do that."

"Right." She finishes painting, then moves to the door and flips the closed sign, hanging the be back at sign in the window with the hands at an hour later.

So she has to close the shop. Oh well. It shouldn't take long. And, important.

Making money is fun, but it won't be necessary once this is all over.

She gathers the plate and all the ingredients but the candles.

"Get the candles and follow me into the back."

Michael grabs the candles and follows, very curious about how this will work. Plus, hour break in the middle of a shift? Not a bad deal at all.

She sets the plate in the middle of the floor and sprinkles salt around it, then herbs, and puts the chicken feet at the apex of the circle. Candles arranged around as well and then she sits and starts mixing the sands and powders in a vial.

"I'm going to start and put my hand out over the plate, palm up and say Eryishon. K'shala. Meh-uhn. Then you're going to put your hand up mirroring mine and say Diprecht. Doh-tehenlo nu-Eryishon." She looks at him sternly. "Repeat that."

He carefully repeats it. "Diprecht. Doh-tehenlo nu-Eryishon."

"Good. Remember that. Don't mess it up. Write it down, but you won't get to read it. So memorize."

She mixes a bit more sand in.

"Then I'll hold the sand over the plate and say The child to the mother and you'll hold the bottle too after that and say The river to the sea. Then we'll close our eyes and concentrate and I'll say Eryishon, hear my prayer."

She shakes the sand in the bottle.

"That's when the energy will be released and you might see stuff and feel lots of energy and things. Just don't spill the sand or get in it's way. I'll tip it out and pour it. Stay out of it's way and let it hit the plate unimpeded. Got it?"
