Lightning struck an oak in the front yard last night.
I had just unplugged my computer, but left the TV on. I was determined to watch TV until the lights went out. Bob was about to put his hand on the door knob to go out for a smoke. CRACK! POP! POP! POP! *FLASHES OF LIGHT* Darkness. A whiff of burned circuits.
Electrons had lined up just right in the oak to complete the circuit to the stormcloud. That would have been scary enough, but power lines to an outside lampost carried the surge into the house. All the breakers to half the house tripped. I believe the TV is dead. What ever notion told me to unplug my computer, I'm thankful. The AC unit may be out, too.
And we've lost a large lovely shade tree. It's bark is blistered.
Bob was scared, he really could have been hit. I swear he smoked 5 or 6 ciggies and finished off a bottle of wine. Mark started making his list of next morning phone calls. He seemed distressed, but I know secretly he thrives on drama.
I wasn't nearly as scared as I probably should have been. It happened so fast. It was surreal.
