Saw Shame over the weekend and I have to say, it was exquisite. It is obvious that the director, Steve McQueen, was a visual artist before becoming a director, because the images were so sharp and precise; it's what I most enjoyed about the movie. I really, really enjoyed Carey Mulligan's performance, she is an infinitely watchable actress, her every choice is so interesting. And Michael Fassbender, whoo boy, what a guttural, honest and open performance. It's like he cut open a vein and I watched him bleed onscreen for an hour and a half. If he and Mulligan aren't nominated for best actor and best supporting actress oscars respectively, I'm shooting my tv.
