I think Elephants are the most social mammals. I am currently reading Elephant Days and Nights: Ten Years with the Indian Elephant by Raman Sukumar.
sanathreddy had told me about this behaviour Elephants putting their trunk tips in each other’s mouth when they are under some stress and a chapter in the book explains it all. Its not that they exhibit this behavior only when they are under some stress, but they also do it when they are bonding with their family members or in a playful mood. The book had explanations to most of the question-marks which I had in my mind. I am simply amazed by their social and emotional behaviour. Ah.. It was an amazing read :-)
