i hurt

what a day...
I started my intensive dance thingy. the physical aspects of the classes were good, but i don't think i was sufficiently warned of how humiliating the experience would be. Half the brats had not yet hit puberty, so for once i was the most well endowed... though that was the furthest thing from my mind upon entering the jazz class ( Read more... )

well, after a long, hard day of disapointment, who else can make it all better!

I know how the stupidity feels though, I'm upstaged by 13 year olds almost every time I pick up an instrument. It's disapointing, but remember, you won't have to compete with them for afew years (anti-moral).

anyway, enjoy your Jon Stewart, I know I'll be watching too!

Yeah, you can feel what they're doing and they're passionate.

The only problem is that they're trained monkeys. In the sense that they take private lessons and learn what impresses people. They practice a riff for hours and hours because it sounds impressive. When they're striped to bare bones, they're no better than I am.

It's likely much the same with your dancing. These kids do know some stuff, but they only know what looks impressive. They're likely no more talented than you are, they just learn what's impressive from their teachers.

Pride yourself in your independence. That what you do is all your own.

Wow, long comment, I can elaborate further, but better to do that another time.

doesn't sound like real passion to me... more like its all they've known. real passion is when you are inclined towards the art of your own accord, not for the purpose of entertaining others, though thats generally what eventually ends up as a result of your passion. those 13 year olds will only go as far as training can take them, while you can go beyond any kind of training.

this does seem to be the entry for long comments...

those mice won't know what hit them! until the news spreads and they'll all be like "ohhh.... she tap dances now... let vacate..." and connie will be so thrilled she'll allow you to become the tap dancing superstar you always wanted to be since about 5 minutes ago, for she was against it from the beginning for fear it might damage your teeth (don't ask me, its connie's logic).
