Fic rec: Home for Christmas by southernred2
I fail at providing an Xmas fic (wait, I did write one for my sparky_santa assignment, but I'm not allowed to tell just yet) but I'm happy I can rec something written by a very good friend of mine. It's Christmasy, it's AU (okay, more like alternate reality for SGA) and has tons of good characterization and John & Elizabeth moments.

Summary: in this universe John Sheppard never left for Pegasus. He is a retired USAF Major and one night he gets an unexpected visitor in his snow - covered cabin.
Why should you read this? First of all the premise of John not going with Pegasus expedition is a brave one. Also, the fic offers some of the best John characterization I have seen, it's also good with Elizabeth, but I think southernred2 did exceptionally good job with John. He has to spend few days with a woman he doesn't know at all, we watch them interact and get to know each other while John is doing his best not to get too close to her. He is intriguing, guarded and it makes you wonder why is he so alone, on Christmas of all days. There are some interesting details connecting this story with the show canon (certain two horses are my favorite bit!) and by the time the story is done, you'll only want more.
