Tonight at church our Pastor suggested a new idea, that we, the members at the church should go out ourselves and try to get people to go to our Church, he will train us to talk about our faith. I think its a good idea that is long overdue.
But thats not the part that I found interesting......
He went on to talk about how Titusville is becomming such a major city and that in a few years it will be a major city. So now please excuse me while I climb on my soapbox to rant about this.
(First a disclaimer though, I actually like Titusville, I like that I'm a hour away from downtown Orlando,45 minutes from Daytona Beach, and a hour from Melbourne, and 20 minutes from Merritt Island/Cocoa Beach. So its in the center of everything)
With that being said, I'm sick of hearing everyone go on about how big a city Titusville has/is become. Folks, Bealls going to Searstown mall and Belk's moving into the old Wal-Mart next to Publix on Garden St. is *NOT* progress. Rex electronics building on 50 and Wataburger building on 405 is *NOT* progress.
You want progress? Tear down Miracle City Mall, build a smaller, better Waterford Lakes complete with either a American Eagle, Abercrombie, Hollister, Old Navy, Gap, Express, a decent freaking movie theater, ANYTHING!!!!! Thats progress. Progress is building a Super Target with Home Depot on that 40 acre's off of 405 so Wal-Mart and Lowes actually have competition. Build Chili's, Olive Garden, Outback, Smokey Bones, Steak 'n Shake. Thats real progress.
Titusville's biggest problem (aside from the nation's most retarted City Counsel and crappy police department) is that the people here want progress but don't wanna compromise "historic landmarks", for example Historic Downtown Titusville has so much potential, put in a couple little clubs with live bands, some nice shops (and NO I DONT MEAN PLAYALINDA SURF SHOP) places that people wanna shop at. And you have the makings of a nice downtown. But Nooooooooooooooo that would involve major revnovation and destroy "historic landmarks". People need to understand that Titusville's history is crappy at best. We need to think about the future here. People are having a fit that they're tearing down the old Howard Johnson motel across the street from THS to build condos. IT HASENT EVEN BEEN A HOWARD JOHNSON IN LIKE 10 YEARS PEOPLE!!!!!! But its considered "historic". How many years have we been hearing about Target and Home Depot comming to Titusville??? Like 10-15 years, its old news, Wal-Mart has a strangle hold on this city.
I get kinda annoyed when people talk about Titusville becomming a city like Daytona or Melbourne or even Merritt Island. Those cities became big because the people were smart enough to realize that in order to become a big city sometimes you have to let go of the past and embrace the future. People are so attacthed to Miracle City Mall, and at one time it used to be a very, very busy mall (I know because I have videotape of it being jam packed from like the late 80's) It's a shell of what it used to be. People would freak out when they hear of it being torn down. I'm all for it being torn down as long as its going to be build into another mall and not condos, which is the last thing we need. But I could care less that its considered "historic" tear it down, and build Miracle City Mall II. Make it a real mall instead of a crappy JC Penny's and a couple of cell phone places. Same with Searstown. Titusville will always be a crappy town until people quit being so anal about "historic" Titusville. I know it may offend some people to read this but you know, I'm sick of hearing about Titusville being considered "The Next Big Thing". If people wanna leave Titusville the way it is thats fine and cool, but don't call a grand opening for a bank or fast food resturant "progress" because you're just kidding yourselves. I'm off my soapbox......for now.
BTW, did I mention we could REALLY use a Best Buy in Titusville???
