Good news, sort of good news and not as good news

Well, the ER doctor who treated me was found dead. Oh my gosh. I’m so surprised.

In other news I got a letter from my gastroenterologist. The biopsies showed no cancer. Unfortunately, we’re still not sure what’s causing the intestinal problems. We have discovered that I have a hiatal hernia with “esophageal changes”. It's believed this is what was causing the upper GI tract bleeding. It’s hard for me to describe what it is, but imagine it as your stomach going into your esophagus. Because of the gap it causes it gives you GERD. It’s unknown what causes hiatal hernias, but it’s believed they develop gradually. Before anyone assumes anything, since it’s a structural change, it is believed it’s not caused from stress. The doctor recommends I start taking Prilosec and try to avoid or reduce eating these foods:

Caffeine
Chocolate
Onions
Spicy foods
Fried or fatty foods
Spearmint
Peppermint
Citrus fruits
Tomato-based foods
Meals within 2-3 hours of bedtime
Large meals

This, of coarse, applies to if when I can eat normally again. This aggravates me because even if when we get rid of the intestinal problems I’ll still be stuck with this. This isn’t just going to go away.

Here is a photo that sums everything up quite nicely.

Edit:
Here's something for you gamers out there.
