Finding my way
Here's the first post with my reconstituted PC. Apparently I got the last of those Intel SSDs in the city. It's very early going, but so far I'm happy with Windows 8.1; it was much simpler to install than Win7 and very, very fast. Also, a lot of configuration was already done thanks to my Surface, from which Win8 grabbed my favourites and even my wallpaper.
One complicating factor was that a lot of the driver disks for my system's hardware are AWOL along with the Win7 disks, though they seem to all have been available for download. Another complicating factor is that my recovery attempts did indeed trash the secondary hard drive; I'll have to try restoring that today.
