Well, yesterday actually came just about as planned.

Minor changes happened, of course: instead of picking up Deus Ex at HMV, which inconveniently was holding a DVD/CD clearance and thus had its cashes backed up clear across the store, I picked it up at Electronics Boutique; instead of filet mignon at the Keg, the surf-and-turf was on "sale" so I had to reteach myself how to use a shell-cracker thingy.

Dinner was delicious, though perhaps given my inexpertise I should consider lobster "diet food" as I must've burned off more calories extracting the meat than I gained from said meat. The restaurant was crowded and noisy, alas, so I didn't linger for coffee and dessert and instead headed home with my new game.

I wasn't certain that I was actually enjoying Deus Ex until I looked up at the clock and saw it was after 2am. That's what sealed the deal; I don't get that caught up into too many games. The graphics don't sweep me away, and some of the plot and character elements are a bit cliche (though one minor character did point this out, so there's an element of self-awareness among the writers I guess) the gameplay is quite good. I will have to rewind my game a couple of hours back, though, as I seem to have skipped too far ahead into the main mission for my character's "level". So drop a couple game-saves into the memory hole and go looking for more sidequests... which is no hardship, actually, as I seem to enjoy those more than the main mission. I also quite enjoy the hacking minigame, though perhaps I've devoted to many XP into those skills... another reason to wind back the clock.

One fly in the ointment, overall and not just game-related; the weather change seems to have buggered up my hips. Nothing serious, just stiffness and soreness akin to that I experienced after schlepping furniture last July... I've given up on stoicism and have some Tylenol ready once the coffee cools to drinkability.

-- Steve'll admit that extended period slumped unblinking in the La-Z-Boy hasn't helped with the hips.

PS: Just finished the main storyline in From Dust. Fun game, a bit tricky in spots though. Definitely will go through again to try for 100% mission completion, after I finish with Deus Ex.

ouch, food, games
