Most Americans don't think much about US elections either. Most here feel that the democratic system is beginning to crumble. Most politicians are more interested in making themselves money and preserving their careers than helping out the population.
Many of us here feel that our freedoms are slipping away and that the USA is moving toward socialism. It is so slight that most people don't notice the subtle shifts. Also, with the large amount of immigration coming from Mexico and the numbers of minorities that are rapidly increasing in numbers, I'd say that crumbling from within is already starting to happen. I think that's how America will fall...from within.
