That is, we watched the Oscars on Monday night :)
So I really haven't much to say, honestly. Maybe just a bullet point or two:
- First, there's an article madame_urushiol posted, which I loved. It's titled Was James Franco Stoned when he Hosted the Oscars?
- Then there was Melissa Leo's gynecology exam dress. In that picture, it's not bad at all. But when she stormed the stage? I was sure we'd were going to see things we Didn't Want To See.
- deenbat, please make fun of Helena Bonham Carter all you want. She may dress like she's an indie chick, but she's a bona fide movie star and needs to stop dressing for a part in Oliver!.
- It seems like Twitter really liked the Kirk Douglas part of the Oscars that night (I didn't watch the Oscars live, but I definitely checked to see what those who did were thinking). I did not, and I'll leave it at that.
- Brolin/Bardem were darling together, as were Downey, Jr. and Law.
- Justin Timberlake as Banksy made me want to call inkognitoh on the phone.
- So when Anne Hathaway did that little quasi Les Mis song, did Franco do anything, other than come out dressed as Marilyn? I was trying to remember this as I was falling asleep last night. He just walked out, delivered a couple of lines, and that was it, right? Weird.
- Oprah looked exhausted. Those news reports that her network isn't doing so well might be true.
- Anne Hathaway, whose team I am; was darling, except the "whoo!" every time she introduced someone and clapped for them was more "sporting event" than "Oscars".
- Did it really end up pouring rain as forecast there? Because that is the only reason I'll forgive Scarlett Johansson for that horrible hair.
- Kathryn Bigelow looked like a linebacker next to Hilary Swank.
- I seriously loved Russell Brand "translating" for Dame Helen. I've heard they hit it off on whatever movie they did together (Arthur?), but that was pretty cute. And she, as always, looked uh-mazing.
- Loved the Billy Crystal bit, but that Bob Hope thing was too long, right?
- When Sandra Bullock came out to award the Best Actor Oscar, she looked soooo sad. It broke my heart a little.
- And ohmyword, how nervous was Gwyneth? That was awkward.
- Christian Bale getting choked up as he thanked his wife was possibly the sweetest thing of the night. That, and the "listen to your mum" Director of "King's Speech".
- I'm so, so, so glad Colin Firth won. It's about time.
- Shout out to islandmomma who was sweet enough to wonder where I was that night :)
- I almost forgot this part! Dear Academy of Motion Pictures blah blah blah: saying it's the young, hip Oscars doesn't make it young and hip.
There's probably more but I've already said enough for someone who didn't watch it live :)
