it's been really dry here

Aug 04, 2008 14:22

It's always dry here, so that's not really news, but we've had more than 20 days of over 90-degree heat, and we're not used to that. It just doesn't get that hot, for that long here, very often.

And now there's a grass fire burning nearby. Regular readers of this blog may have noted that I comment often on losing mobile phone connectivity when driving past Green Mountain. Yeah, it interferes with the cell towers on the foothills behind it :) Anyway, it's Green Mountain (that's hardly ever green) that we drive past to go almost everywhere, including the grocery store. In fact, the part of town we live in is called Green Mountain, and the high school we're closest to is Green Mountain High.

It's close.

They're saying no houses are in danger right now, but shifting winds (which happen often here) could change that. I have my handbag and laptop close to me, in case we have to leave quickly.

If you can get streaming video on your computer, this might work too.

Edited to add: we are safe. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers -- they are greatly appreciated.
