OK -- I'm watching it on TiVo, knowing the results have already been announced. But I also watched last week's results show first, and oh DEAR, why did Asia'h have to leave with bad hair and a maternity top? Poor thing. At least I don't have type that awkward apostrophe in her name anymore ....
So. TOP 12 ... on TiVo
Oh brother. They start with "say hello to our new set, America"? Gak. Wouldn't it be amazing if we could just hear all the contestants sing?
And the top 12 walk out. What clown pants hath wrought on Amanda, let us not have to see again. Please.
I love that Syesha says she's a working actress. Hee! She's going to sing "Got to Get You Into My Life". She's flat on the "there"s, and sounds very "don't forget to tip your waitresses". I'm disappointed, because I really like her ... and this song, too, but ... not together. That wasn't her best performance, and you can tell by her forced smile at the end that she knows it.
Chikezie starts out singing the "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?" version of "She's a Woman". It's either so different from the original that it's not recognizable, or I've never heard it. I doubt it's the latter on Beatles night. Regardless, it's the best performance he has EVER given us. He's been phoning it in the last few weeks, and I was bored, frankly. This is a guy I haven't seen before, and on tonight's performance alone, he should make it to the top 6 or less. OHMYWORD! And Paula just stole my "OBWAT" line! Um ... Ryan is out of control. Take it down a notch, Ryan.
Ramiele is up next, singing "In My Life". She's got a lovely voice, but the forced walking (like a Donny & Marie Christmas special, walking through the trees -- don't try this at home folks; they're seasoned professionals) shouldn't make your voice wobbly. If you sound best standing still, then just stand still. It's ok. You'll build up your stamina. A couple flat spots in the middle, but this is really pretty. Sleepy, but pretty. And they NEED a stylist who can dress little bitty short girls. Doesn't she have a big voice and a decent range? You'd never know it from this song.
Jason up next, singing "If I Fell". Another nice performance, but totally not knocking my socks off. It's pretty and pleasant to listen to, but I don't think the Next Pop Star (tm) is supposed to be pleasant to listen to, ya know. I'm also over the dreds. Put them away, dude.
I'm still hearting Carly. And I still wish they'd stop that curling under of her hair. I didn't know Charlie's Angels was casting for new girls. Did you see the pic of her singing at the bar? She's breathtakingly beautiful in a
Corrs fresh out of Ireland way. Let's leave her that way. Fabulous song, fabulous version, fabulous voice. Scary-bad dress choice.
The hair-in-front-is-thinning-so-I-grew-it-out guy is singing "Eleanor Rigby". He's brought his A game, too. A couple off notes, but this is great. David Cook should be moving on to next week, too. This is a great arrangement. Seriously? That recording could sell in stores tomorrow. This is me, jumping into the Fans of David camp.
Here comes Brooke, singing "Let it Be". I have high hopes for this. Why did she start at the piano (edit -- and never leave)? It's very singer/songwriter of her, but she's having to pay too much attention to the keys for my taste. Only do that if you're totally and completely confident of the notes, honey. This is a nice and strong performance, but last week was better, and I think it's the piano that's slowing her down. Oh, and Brooke? Shaking your head in drama doesn't distract us from the flat notes. I'm still a fan, but you're on shaky ground. And don't bring that dress back next week.
Pause for ad for my phone :)
"I Saw Her Standing There" better be fun with the other David. I really like this song. Let's see if I like him doing it. Oh bleh -- more wobbly-voiced walking. He looks way too serious for this fun of a song. I'm over him. Has he smiled yet? He's actually frowning. Feh. Tried too hard tonight.
Amanda hasn't started singing yet but I already hate her extensions with the passion of a thousand fiery suns. She'll be singing "You Can't Do that", but I'm not looking forward to it. I do like her, but I'm done with her. That sound where you just kind of sing ra ra ra vowels with a couple of "s"s pronounced "sh" is not appealing and wears thin pretty quickly. She's a one-trick pony, and this is the end of the road for her. She's not Elvis and this is her last week, methinks. LOL at Simon's "I understood only about 30% of what you sang".
Here comes Michael Johns, who actually understands the music, I think, from his pre-taped piece. He's singing "Across the Universe". Sounds good, but that's about all right now. Better than most of the girls, though. Boring ending. That's all I have. Oh LOL -- Simon is referring to Carly, and says "what's the Irish girl's name?"
I finally figured out who Kristy Lee Cook is! She's a
Breck Girl! She's singing "8 Days a Week". I already hate it, and the office holiday party sequined top in combination with intentionally ripped jeans. It's too fast, and she sounds behind the band the whole time. Wow, that was supremely awful. Randy is right on -- she tried to force runs into it (which is why she was behind the band the whole time).
David is up last, and I'm guessing they saved one of the best for last. Love the cute coat, but not the forgetting of the words. Nice cover, though. So he's definitely moving on to another week, because he's fabulous and has been consistently fabulous from week to week, but if this was the first I'd seen him, I'd not be so confident of his return. Surprisingly weak performance from a very nervous David A.
The boys definitely ruled the night, I have to say. Hands down, they were far superior to the girls, except for Carly.
Predictie McLeaverson says we're adiosing:
Syesha or KLC
Ramiele/Amanda, with the edge to Amanda
Jason or David Hernandez
Wow -- David H is going home. I knew he would in the next couple of weeks, but I didn't expect him to be first of the Top 12. And now I can go to sleep.
