On Sunday morning, we landed in Frankfurt, ran through Passport Kontroll, ran through another security check, ran to the Lufthansa counter for boarding passes, and then ran to our gate for Düsseldorf, about 2 minutes before they started boarding our flight.
I had exactly 2 minutes to call
elhamisabel to say that I probably didn't have time to come out of security and see her and go back through security to catch my plane. I was feeling horrible that she probably got up early, and was somewhere in the airport that I couldn't see her, and she'd gotten up early for nothing.
That's not the part that made me happy. I really wanted to see her.
No, the part that made me happy is that when I called her, I didn't have to awkwardly say anything like "um .. this is Ant... um ... [insert real name] ... um is this Elham?" No, instead, the phone rang, she picked up, and she said, "OH NO!" (she'd overslept). I can't explain it, but that fact that we just immediately started having a conversation, as if we'd been talking to each other on the phone for years, made me supremely happy. Seriously, that truly made me happy :)
Not seeing her ... did NOT make me happy.
Also, sleeping through the Superbowl did not make me happy. I already miss football.
Anyway, we're here, we're working hard, and of course, having 2 or 3 meals a day consisting of pork or pork products. Unk is happy with the bier.
The picture is from a brauhaus (literally "brew house") we went to for dinner on Sunday night. So far, it appears that I still like
Heineken best. Will continue to post updates. I'm not offended by Warsteiner, but ... it's no Heineken in Amsterdam. That's all I'm saying.
Edited to unlock this entry now that we're back home.
