[Rule One of all Pokemon universes - everything can be solved by having monsters beat on one another.

This is no exception even when you happen to be one of the said monsters, as Mewtwo well knows - and that is why, upon discovering the wonderful thing called the battle dome, he doesn't waste a moment entering and taking a look around. Evil ( Read more... )

[Well, surely, at some point, Mewtwo is bound to notice a very familiar trainer entering a chamber, and letting out his three Pokémon. The simulation soon starts up, and another 'person' appears opposite of Gold, appearing to be a trainer. But it's not just any trainer, oh no. Today, Gold's chosen as his opponent none other than... Red?!

It's a younger Red, though, at about age 14, but still Red nonetheless.]

[The battle quickly starts off, the chamber taking on the form of a Pokémon stadium, complete with cheering crowd! 'Red' leads off with his Snorlax, while Gold starts off with a classic, good ol' Politaro!]

[...The crowd is a bit much, Gold. Real champions don't need spectators >8U

On one hand, it's a small and agile Pokemon versus one with less mobility. On the other, Red of all people would be able to turn this situation around without breaking a sweat.

Going back to the first hand, this isn't really Red - it's just a simulation of him, and no virtual trainer could ever match up to the real article.

This should be interesting anyways.]

[Yeah, sadly, the abilities of this Red are toned down somewhat. Even from two years ago, Gold wouldn't be able to beat Red at full strength. But Gold has one advantage, and that's that he knows all of Red's tricks!

The Snorlax charges at Politaro with a Mega Punch, but the frog leaps in the air and nails it with a Toxic!]

[Toxic sets a time limit on the battle. And the key to overcoming a limit like that, Mewtwo knows, is to go in with an idea of what you're doing and make every hit count.

The first step is to restrict movement, create some kind of field hazard that limits the Politoed to a certain number of options. But Mewtwo isn't familiar with Lax's abilities - he might not have something like that at his disposal...]

[Politaro has to make these next few moves count, or Lax'll nullify everything they did with a Rest attack. Lax goes in with a Mega Kick, but Politaro takes the attack and counters with an Ice Beam, freezing the beast's feet.]

[Red would turn that into an advantage. Shatter the ice, turn it into an attack - keep it there, use it to shield. Or, most likely, something more unexpected.]

[That's exactly what Gold counts on, and he intends to take advantage of it. Lax shatters the ice and sends it flying at Politaro in shards, who quickly responds by using a Surf attack, sending the ice back in a wave of water and covering the field--and Snorlax--with it.]

[...this is a disappointing simulation.

A switch to something Water-type. Probably Poliwrath? Or Pikachu, even.]

[Gold commands another Surf, but this time the Red simulation counters, indeed, by recalling Lax and sending out Pika, who Thunderbolts the wave, electrifying the water and the frog. Politaro falls to the ground, KO'ed.]

[Okay, all right. Gold has two other Pokemon that Mewtwo has seen around the house - either one could be a fair matchup...]

[Of course, Gold shouldn't have expected to have it easy against Red, even if it's a hologram operating at only half power.

Acting quickly, Gold sends out Explotaro, who quickly acts with an Earthquake, striking Pika hard and knocking it out in one blow. Sorry, Pika. Come back when your defense isn't worthless.]
