Hello!
I have loads of things to post about. I was going to do a post about moving house, but my dog ate it. Later on I'll do a post about the Italy trip I just returned from. For now I'm gonna talk about the Jinny project I just did, and am kinda still doing in a way.
I'm going to try and use what I believe the kidz refer to as an "LJ Cut". I will also try and post pictures. I'm still new at all this, you know. However, I have had three cups of tea over the last 1.5 hours, so I'm raring to go! Grrr!
I heard many months ago via a friend that a friend of his was launching his own range of custom toy, called Jinny. I was interested, so got in touch. a couple of months later I received the little blank Dude in the post. He came in a small plastic bag which looked not unlike a Cyberman pod from the Doctor Who story 'Earthshock':
Upon seeing how tiny Jinny is I began fretting about my questionable ability to use a paintbrush. I'm all digital these days, so am not used to the physical limitations of the real world. The thought of randomly twitching and messing up hours' worth of work was slightly tarrifying. I've tried Edit > Undo in real life and it doesn't work. People look at you strangely when your hands flail about the room trying to find the user interface.
After working through many a mental image as possibly designs (including both a musculature system and some kind of fabric coating) I eventually put pen to template to arrive at this:
So, with that done I could get on with other things. I dearly love Photoshop and have an insatiable passion for playing around with pictures. With this in mind I asked the Jinny Dude if I could make some photographic / graphics pieces. He was all for it, and so I made this picture:
The Jinny Dude was really keen on this, and said he wanted to print it up at A2 size, and perhaps sell it to punters during the course of the exhibition. I found this all well exciting, and knuckled down to doing this one too...
To cut an irritating ink-smudging-related story short, here are some pictures of the toy....
And my final poster, which was completed too late for printing for the launch event, but will be up for the last week. I'm going to tweak it before that though, as there's loads wrong with it still.
Here's my Jinny on his shelf at the launch event...
So, the launch show was good. I think at least one person bought one of my posters, and now I gather someone probably wants to buy the little toy itself. Firstly I'm pleasantly surprised anyone wants to spend money on something with my shaky, lumpy paintwork adorning its surface. Secondly, I need to decide how much I want for it. I really don't know... Do I even want to sell it? Probably, yes. And there's a good chance the design will go into production later, but that's not a done deal yet. I'd bloody love that though. That'd make it worth getting rid of my original, if I get a nice properly printed one with a box back in return. Watch this space!!!! Quite exciting actually....
You can see more photos of the launch event (including the other custom toys)
