after a lovely morning with
jaaladay and family, lulu was obviously overdue for a nap. she had a medium sized fit in the stroller, leaving the park, then started a full on tornado of a fit when i was getting her into the car seat. i had suggested that we go home and nurse on the couch and she really grabbed on to that idea, shouting "couch! couch!" while crying and screaming and wiggling. she was actually foaming at the mouth. i'd never seen her that bad!! so i started the car and started to drive, thinking that that would calm her down, but about 4 blocks down the road, there was no change. so i stopped the car and turned around. "are you ok, lulu? are you in pain?" she just kept screaming. so i said "do you want to go nurse on the couch?" "yes." "well then we have to drive there. we have to drive home because that is where the couch is."
not another sound from the back seat. within a block or two she was asleep.
who knew that speaking calmly and rationally could actually work?
