Greetings, fellow anti-Riders!
My name is Anya, and I am just coming out of a long phase of Lurking. I've lurked on Anti-Shur'tugal, Conjugal Felicity, and ImpishIdea, but never really posted except maybe to pop some bit of snark in the comment section. In fact, this is my first honest-to-Thoth post on Livejournal. Whee, Internet milestone. *waves arms*
Anyway, I guess it's time for me to talk about who I am and what I'm doing. I'm a weird millennial with ADHD and a Classics degree who spends her time writing and doting upon her cat. I usually say I'm writing a novel, but in truth, a great deal of my writing time is spent on worldbuilding and side projects.
One of those side projects, inspired by my recent lurking and Das Mervin's Twilight spitefics, is a strange spite/fix fic that takes place five years after the events of Inheritance. It follows the story of Vanora Orellasdaughter, a young woman who lost her family to the Varden invasion and, when the chance presents itself, starts down the road to revenge. On her way, she must confront the truths behind her assumptions and discern whether her desire to punish the Varden is born of anger, justice, or both.
The story doesn't really have a title yet, and the plot is only basically outlined. I've working-titled it "Cyclical," because one of the main themes in the story is about how violence breeds violence. Galbatorix sent his agents after Eragon's family, which led to Eragon helping the Varden storm Uru'baen, which resulted in Eragon's agents killing Vanora's family, which made Vanora want to kill the leaders of the Varden. I worry a bit that the fic is self-indulgent, since Vanora occasionally functions as my mouthpiece for giving the Inheritance characters a good helping of What The Hell, Hero, but I also want to inject some sense into this bizarre, unnecessary-diaeresis-filled world. I want to push some actual shades of gray into the black-and-white Designated Hero morality, show a character actually struggling with the implications of her actions, and maybe squeeze some sense into the messed-up magic system. I'm just... also going to do that while giving Eragon, Nasuada, Arya, Angela, Roran, etc. a heaping helping of Just Desserts with extra karma sauce.
I suppose what I'd like to end this on is... do you have any suggestions for how I might go about this? And if I do really get this spitefic going, would you like to see me post it?
