So close to getting a bingo. If only you had a "He's just doing the hero's journey/All fantasy writers do it" or a "It's fantasy, it doesn't have to be realistic" box.

Heheee. I thought a reference to "homages" and a reference "there are no original ideas" might mean "it's the Hero's Journey" would become repetitive, but "it doesn't have to be realistic because it's fantasy" would have been good. I've gotten that one.

Well most of the points in the box are pretty true. I find it amazing that a whole site hating on Paolini exists. Is he great? Fuck no. Is he good? Not really. Is he decent? Probably. It's funny how he manages write better then the majority of people who post stories on here. However most of his metaphors are... odd and he seems fine with being predicatable. Which normally isn't bad, but it does get somewhat boring. Hate is born of ignorance. That said I would never generalise such a term. Now I'm going to look for a site hating on JK Rowling. Who is, in my opinion, the most overrated author of the decade. She is a good read, but not that good. Oh and the guy talking about fantasy and realism: you do realise that those two terms conflict with each other, don't you? I'm starting to think this site is filled with jealous, junior, authors. Not that I blame you, If could write an average novel and become a millionaire, I would do so. Would the other fellow please tell me why fantasy has to be realistic by our standards?

1. This isn't a "site hating on Paolini." It's a diversified literary criticism group that got its start based around criticism of Paolini's work. The group isn't perfect, but it's not about "hate ( ... )

1- Seems that way to me, straight from the sites name. I'm not a critic. The world has enough of those; noticed how many wars are going on around the world? Criticism is when people complain how something isn't good enough for them or there is something wrong. Me? I just think of all the starving kids in Africa ( ... )

And taking shots at the fans of his work with the whole bingo thing.

Did you notice the 'seen' in point 2? I don't know what that is doing there.

You meant "since." I can read typoese. I'm very used to it. I'm not sure why there's an argument about how "oh I never use 'than' because that's what I've been doing since I was a kid." So . . . you have a habit of writing incorrectly while claiming you have the knowledge to judge others' stories. I've not posted any stories on this site. This is not a story-sharing group.

Sorry that just passed right over my head. I think on a fundamental scale 'then' 'than' is my only problem. I can send you some of my writing if you want, but it will probably make you cringe. Lol.

No thanks. I work as an editor, and generally I get paid for looking at people's work. I don't need any more cringing in my life either. But good luck.

Note: wait a second, did you say here that the "then/than" issue is your only problem in writing? I hope I just read that wrong/don't understand completely. (And because you have a history of assuming I'm trying to insult you, let me be very clear: I'm asking 100% honestly if you believe that your confusion of then/than is the only consistent mistake you've been making in writing. Because in general I think you mix up homophones and make punctuation mistakes--especially with regards to plurals--in every single comment you make. I know this correspondence isn't supposed to be publishing-level work, but I'm trying to figure out if you actually meant what I think you meant. . . .)

My most basic mistake I think. I'm sure I have more and if I read over my work I would most likely spot them and understand why they are wrong, but I would still write them wrong the first time round.

Criticizing the defenses of fans of his work is fair game. A Bingo card is designed to organize the terrible arguments that fans use to defend his work, none of which are actually legitimate. Instead of listening to what our problems with the series actually are, fans dig one of these famous excuses out of their pockets, and Bingo cards have become a funny way to point out exactly how often we've heard the same (bad) arguments. To us, it's self-evident why they're all bad arguments.

1. "Anti" isn't "we're mean-spirited haters who crap on things that are successful." I have four pretty in-depth literary criticism essays on these books, and I'll trust that if you actually want to know what my problems are with the series, you'll find them and read them. If, instead, you'd rather assume my objections to the series are just based on hate and jealousy, you can remain ignorant and comfortable in your assumption that criticism isn't actually based on anything ( ... )

No, criticism isn't "stuff that's bad" in a category with global horrors. That's incoherent, so I don't really even know what to say ( ... )
