Replacing Words in Fantasy

Oh, this is always a trick word. I try to keep the word replacement to a minimum, but sometimes things just have the be changed.

On time - Days are numbered, Firstday, Secondday, etc.. The in-world explanation being that the only way that the different cultures would agree on certain things was to be as straightforward as possible. A week is six days but still a week, a month has five weeks, and a year has twelve months. Hours, second, minutes, etc., are all the same.

On measurement - I just use imperial, which is admittedly a little awkward because I grew up on metric, but it sounds more authentic.

Obscenity - Mostly they don't! 'Hells' is an all-purpose expression of disgust or fear, and 'Keff' replaces the F-bomb, but like I said, mostly I don't let characters swear much.

Beyond that, I really don't like changing things too much. There's a great XKCD comic that straight up says that in most cases, the more words you make up for normal stuff, the more your work is gonna suck. I've yet to see anything that proves it wrong. (Except maybe Tolkien, and he's excused on the basis of being AWESOME.)
