What is it with fans?

I recently came across this place dodging crazy fans
And speaking of fans..
All of my friends are obsessed with this series. I'm the lone hater (I'm also the one who reads the most). Anyways on Wikipedia there's this section for rumours on Empire. Recently one of my friends posted a rumour on the site. It went something like "The soul of Brom will guide Eragon to the vault of souls where he will find the soul of the first Eragon and become more powerful." He showed it to me and asked me what I thought of it. This bit is cruel, I looked at him and said "It's gay. Isn't Eragon powerful enough?" I know I was slack but he went over the top. He went totally crazy and ignored me for almost a week. Is this what all fans are like? Geez what's up with that. Later (When he got over it) He was rereading Eldest (Wow He's reading it more than once? I could barely get through it the first time!) He was going on about how good. I pointed out the lack of originiality (Especially his rip off dwarf mythology thing) and how it's been done better. He got pissed off and told me how it was nothing like that. I asked him to tell me one thing that was orignal and he's been ignoring me for quite a few days and still counting. Was the book really worth getting so defensive over? So after realising how alone I was I finally came across this site and boy I feel right at home.
So anyways good meet a bunch of like minded people who realise inheritance for what it's worth.
