Hello!
It seames to be that in Germany you can find no Community discussing “Eragon” critically. So I’am here now ... English is not my own language - please be lenient towards me ;-)
First time I read this books I was interested because Paolini was a young writer with the same dreams I had in the time I was 15-18 (and today, hehe) ... publishing my own book sometimes ... But then, after the whole book 1 and the half of book 2 I was angry about him. Why do I think about my own special ideas for my story - when you can be published and make a bestseller with those pieces form other works without a soul an fire in it??? Some days I thought that I THINK WRONG, that I should write a "normal fantasy story with the typical boring plot line and typical boring characters" and kick the special ones out of my head.
Phu, I'am glad that I'am over it ;-)
But I am afraid of one thing: that others, teenagers, will think the same way! Imagine there are a lot of young writers who have a new shining example to follow?!? To write like Paolini to get published easy ...
Oh, today ... I told my colleague in the bookshop (she sells the children books) that I gave up the Paolini books because of frustration an anger an the mistakes there. And she said: yes, she also had found some mistakes, but I can’t raise a high claim, it’s a book for twelve year old kids ... Oh, what?? I expect the same from childrens or adult books - that they are good narrations with living characters, that they are comprehensible and proofreaded. And this two books are the onliest in my life (I am 30 and I read many children books to) which I want to edit with a red pencil an cut out many pages an details.
