"I put a bottle cap on Sammie's finger and asked her to marry me. She got really happy and I said, 'See? This is what you need to be prepared for. You can't get all excited over stupid crap like this.'"
Or something like that anyway. Kimi was telling me about a dream she had, and that part of it seemed priceless, but now I'm not sure if I'm remember her words correctly. Very tired... yes.
So, I took Kimi to the airport today. Her stay here was too short. Though I think any stay short of eternity would be too short. I love her immensely.
TCH, the company Kenneth works for, was advertising in the paper that they wanted a database programmer. I went ahead and applied for the job and then I told Kenneth I had done so. Kenneth went to his boss and told him about me, who then asked for a copy of my resume. I e-mailed my resume and got a call a few days later for an interview.
I think the interview went pretty well. They had me take a programming test, and if the test is any indication of what the job is like, then this job will be easy. Easy can be good, in that I'm qualified for the position, and it can be bad, in that I can expect to make less money than what I was making before. Another problem is this company is in Ogden, which is a good hour drive from my current residence.
I know Kenneth would like for me to work there. We wouldn't ever see each other, though, because he works graveyard. And I think working there would be good for my career, to get some diversity on my resume.
Monday I was asked to come in on Thursday for a second interview. The second interview was less of an interview and more of an explanation of what I would do, what the company offers, and what would be expected of me. This company is very much corporate America, meaning you work from 8:00 to 5:00 and you wear a tie. I don't want to wear a tie. I don't want to get up at 6:00am so I can get to Odgen by 8:00. However, I was told that they'd be calling me on Monday to let me know if they would like to hire me or not, and the hard truth is if they offered me a job I'd have to take it because I have no other option.
After the interview, I was sitting in the car telling Kimi of my frustration. How I need a job and the database experience would be good for my career, but I don't want to drive to Ogden and I don't want to wear a tie. I was expecting something better looming beyond the horizon, but it needed to come quick, because I was worried that I'd be forced to take this job, assuming TCH made me an offer. Then, right after I finished my complaining, I got a call on my cel phone from one of the programmers at Saffire. He wanted me to come in for an interview. What timing!
I squeed in excitement. Happy happy happy. Shane has been pulling for me at Saffire ever since I lost my job at Rainbow. Working there would be much better. I would make more money, be closer to home, be near where I go to school, have a more relaxed schedule, and I wouldn't have to wear a bloody tie. I set up an interview for the next day at 11:00.
There wasn't much to the interview. I already know about the company from Shane, and the people at Saffire know about me from Shane and my resume. I was told that one of their PS2 programmers was quitting, they needed to fill the spot immediately, and they were considering me and one other candidate.
I really hope I get this job. Aside from Shane's recommendation, I also know two of the artists there because they're former Beyond Games employees. The owner of Saffire also knows the producer I worked with at Beyond. I don't think any of these former co-workers would have anything bad to say about me.
They want me to come back in on Monday to talk with the person I'd be replacing. I guess they want his opinion of how well I could take over his job, which is understandable. I hope I make a good impression.
Things might actually be looking up. That or I'm just being prepared to be smashed down again. We'll see. *thinking positive thoughts*
