Urgh. Sometimes I really despise technology. Like last night. Somehow, I broke two things: scp and Windows. Though scp wasn't as big a deal, it was still a pain. (scp is a secure file-transfer system on Unix computers. I was in the user center copying the files for my lab onto one of the CS department computers. While it was transfering the files onto their server, their server decided that I'd like my CS department files at the same time. All of them. On the user center machines. That took an hour to clean up. Thank you, hidden files. *emo tear*)
And now, the exciting tale of how changing my password broke Windows. After having used my current password for, oh, over six months, I decided it was in the interest of basic security to change my password. No big deal, it's a routine sort of thing. Or so I thought. My computer was acting pretty bad a little while later, with pretty much everything locked up or in the process of locking up. It's Windows, it does that. Frustrated, I do a cold restart of the computer, it loads up to the Windows log-in screen, and that's where everything goes to hell. Windows does *not* recognize my password. I know for a fact that it was typed in correctly, as I have a rather annoyinc habit of repatedly entering it and deleting it until I'm certain it's correct. I tried it in OWERTY layout. I tried it in Dvorak layout. I tried fucking everything. Finally, while in the process of melting down, I got help from a few people, namely King and Rusty. The initial attempts to change my password were unsuccessful, as something appears to be broken in Windows with my user account. Finally, we deleted the Admin account password, logged in under safe mode, and changed my password that way, which seemed to work. Something that should've at least given my little Windows box the sense of safety ended up locking me out. Gahh...*shakes the fist* I hate Windows...
