"Actually Grig, that's not true." Gam explained. "Most scuba gear is in fact not water proof. Take for instance the typical wetsuit is made of neoprene. It'll keep you fairly warm, but water will soak through it, and it'll do it fairly quickly. It's made to allow water to get through and around you, so that your body will heat the water and use it to maintain one's own body heat. Now take what's called a dry-suit, and you'll find that it is, in some ways, like an underwater haz-mat suit. It would be water-proof, but far too cumbersome."
"So essentially, what you're saying is that there ain't a damn fabric we can use to keep the blood off of us?" Grig asked.
"No, there is. You're simply looking in the wrong sport. Think backwoods hiking and mountain climbing fabrics."
Grig shook his head. "I wear leathers and jerkins Gambino."
Dahnianna perked up and said, "You mean gore-tex don't you?"
"Exactly D."
Grigori shook his head yet again and asked, "What's gore-tex?"
Dahnianna stretched her back and said, "It's a relatively modern fabric that allows evaporation of moisture from within, but will not allow moisture from outside to get in."
"Groovy," Grig said, "Where do we get some?"
"Well Grig," Gam said, "D and I are wearing it. It's incorporated into our armor. Combine that with kevlar and nomex and you're damn near impenetrable."
"Well, that's good for you two, but-"
"Save it Grig," Gam cut him off, "I can make you some armor similar to ours. I know they have the fabrics here, in fact, I'm almost certain that David wears a suit of armor of almost identical origins."
"Good. Get started on it, and make it fast. We've got work to do..."

((Back on the homeworld, more or less))
Paladin stepped off the ship onto the rickity dock. A few months at sea, not a bad way to earn some cash. He heads down the street and rounds a corner to head into Mcafferty's. Oddly enough, it was closed. He knocked on the door, to no effect.
"Well to hell with this," he thought. "Guess I'll head to Otik's and see if Grigori is in."
After about an hour of travel, Paladin finds himself at Otik's tavern. But he finds a sign on the door apologizing for it being closed.
"It's closed, mon ami."
"Ripper?" Paladin asked as he spun around.
"Oui."
"That almost never happens. What's up?"
"Bad news mon ami. Dere was dat whole problem wit Gam and Machiavelli-"
"Gam took on Mac! What the hell was he thinking?"
Ripper shrugged, "Who knows dese t'ings. Den dere was the t-rex-"
"Like the dinosaur?" Paladin interrupted again.
"Oui. Den Gambit died, and-"
"Gambit died! And no one told me! Why the hell didn't anyone get a hold of me!"
"You were on a ship in de middle of de sea! Liadan try to find you, mon ami, but even she couldn't locate you. We could only wait til you get back!"
"Well, what the hell happened?"
"That's exacty what happened. Hell. It broke loose. Now Gam is stuck on another part of the multiverse accesible only to dis grey lady who sent him dere with Grig and Dahnianna. We not sure what's going on dere."
"I thought you said Gam died."
"Oui, he did. But, he has a different body now, although he looks the same. It may be de same body somehow, Je ne sais pas. Anyways, de body dat died has changed into something else, something demonic, and it's tearing de city apart."
"Demonic?"
"Oui. Wings, claws, teeth, fire, and all dat jazz."
Paladin shook his head and looked down for a moment.
"So is there anywhere we could get a drink?"
"Oui. We're holed up in one of Gam's underground hideouts. It has some supplies. Including single malt."
"That'll do Ripper. That'll do."
