Honestly, I remain unconvinced of this article's central point, but I love the little tidbits of economic theory-crafting sprinkled in here. I find it funny that almost no one asks questions like "If we got to design an economic system from the ground up, how could we improve society? What choices in economic/monetary policy actually improve quality of life, as opposed to quantity of power?"
Well, maybe people are considering those questions, just in places I can't hear them. Anyway, it makes me wistful. Sometimes I think I should've taken econ as a minor, way back in the days of undergrad, as its as close as one could get to studying the sort of "science of societies" one saw in Asimov's Foundation series. Anthropology, oddly enough, never seems to go near these concepts.
