On Hackneyed Rhymes

So many words could rhyme with love,
And poets know that very well,
But still make do with “stars above”.

The all-too-common “turtle dove”
Has a distinctly rancid smell.
So many words could rhyme with love,

So why make do with “hazel grove”?
These eye-rhymes do not work! To hell
With all of them, oh stars above!

And even Isaac Asimov,
Whose mind was clearer than a bell,
Knew many words could rhyme with love:

That SF writing Jewish Slav
In an ecstatic rhyming spell
Did not make do with “stars above”,

But rhymed his name with “mazel tov”.
So, to conclude this villanelle -
Do not rhyme “love” with “stars above”,
Rhyme it instead with “Asimov”!
