so on tuesday my friend kim (kylland) texted me asking if i wanted to go to a jazz club with her. i said hell yes! so today we went. it was funny though, i was thinking that it was going to be in O.C. but it was in L.A.. so i had my weird hesitation problem of peeking out from behind of the orange curtain. but i went. it was soooo surreal! i met a famous jazz musician, Dr David (two famous jazz musicians in fact), he played with john coleman, and a famous japanese poet that survived the nuclear bombings, the inventor of the boogie board, and a movie producer that is making (or has made and it is in editing) a documentary on the life and times of john coleman. oh, and alejandro (alex, aka i think "the kid" or maybe a friend of "the kid") was there too!!! (he was having a really, really good time) he was with his dad.
we all took a bus up to L.A. kim played the ukelele (brought into the bus by the inventor of the boogie board)
so we went there and the music was amazing!! the drummer was 81 years old! but he played like a spry youthful man. he walked slowly to his drums, but when he got there he took off. his name was roy hanks.
the food was amazing. kim and i split a bottle of wine and nachos. then i ordered this asian steak with a brilliant spicy salty salad of fresh spinach. we were enjoying the night so much that we also split a piece of chocolate/raspberry cake. soooooo good!
i want my parents to go to this jazz club. the ambience was great and the music was excellent and not too loud (yes i know that i am an old lady) the club was called the catalina club, or something like that. i know the word catalina was in there somewhere.
alejandro was so funny. he said that he fell asleep at the table and had a waking dream that he was listening to the jazz group on a record and he was thinking to himself "yeah, i'm suppose to go see these guys" then he woke up and he was there. i thought that was the funniest thing i ever heard. then on the bus ride home we talked about roscoe's house of chicken and waffles.
i love kim. i love hanging out with her. i realized and related to her that we always have so much fun whenever we hang out. i am so sad that she is leaving in a month to iceland, i am going to miss the hang out sessions that we get to have every once in a while.
oh yeah what a trip i saw pierre, racheal's old friend. he got into a car accident. he says he should have died. he wasn't drinking, but he might have blacked out and was continuing to drive going 40 mph and hit three cars. he is "okay". he shaved his head on the steering wheel and broke his collar bone. but he knows that he got off pretty lucky considering how bad it could have been.
what a night!
