I'm just not sure how to react. In a way, this news (taken from Foxnews.com) is good since I don't have to go buy a new digital TV soon:
"Lawmakers gave broadcasters until April 7, 2009, to end their traditional analog transmissions (search). The so-called "hard date" was included in a sweeping budget bill."
But then . . .
"The bill also would provide $3 billion to help millions of Americans buy digital-to-analog converter boxes for their older television sets - so those consumers will continue to receive a signal once the switch is made permanent."
What the fuck? My problem with this is that whenever there is a government program that is going "to help millions of Americans", I'm never one of them. But, I will be one of the millions of Americans who will pay taxes to buy digital converters for others? What the fuck? I'll have to buy a new TV AND pay for other people to get a converter so they don't have to buy a new TV?
