Happy 33rd Birthday to Ilia Kulik!

May 23, 2010 23:06

...which also make this a dozen years since I'm been interested in figure skating. Or eight years, if you ignore 2006-2010 when I couldn't muster the interest to care about any skaters. Could have something to do with the fact that there weren't any competitive Russian men.

Anyway, to calm down from the earlier post, and to celebrate my obsession, I decided to post some of my favorite figure skating programs. Oh, and Happy Birthday to Ilia. ^_^

Ilia Kulik's Rhapsody in Blue 1998 Olympics: The program that started it all. My favorite is when he skates this at the 1998 Golden Gala Skating Exhibition, but apparently that's under copyright protection. Still, my heart still skips a beat when I watch this skate*:

*Yes, Art is aware of my attraction to tall, blond Russians with long legs. He jokes that it's the only reason I considered dating him. Not...entirely untrue... but I love Art for himself. And I'm sure that figure skaters aren't as interesting/fun as Art ^_~!! Also, since I've dragged him to watching figure skating competitions, Art now understands why I laugh so hard during Blades of Glory.

Michelle Kwan 1998 Nationals SP- Rachmaninoff: While I like the Russians, Michelle Kwan is my favorite skater hands down. Her 1998 short program was brilliant and mesmerizing.

Michelle Kwan ~ 1998 ~ Fluff + Dante's Prayer: I admit to becoming interested in Loreena McKennitt* through this video and Dante's Prayer is one of my favorite songs:

*In fact, you could probably trace many of my interests to figure skating. Sad, but true.

Brian Boitano 1988 Olympic Freeskate: It was a different era, but his skating is so clean! Look at how he lands his jumps, not to mention that spread eagle!

Brian Boitano - Music of the Night: While we're here, might as well post this one:

Kurt Browning - Singing in the Rain : Skating in the rain! I love the movie and this program! It was nice to hear that Valentina also likes Kurt Browning:

Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov Euros Gala 1994: Classic. You can't watch figure skating without coming across Gordeeva and Grinkov.

Meryl Davis & Charlie White 2009 Grand Prix Final ~ Bollywood dance: Amazing. Easily my favorite ice-dancing program.

...though I also have a soft spot for Maria Annisinna and Gwendel Peizerat:

Stéphane Lambiel - 2006 Olympics Gala: Blatant eye candy. Eye candy for me. =)

Evan Lysacek - 2006 Olympics Exhibition ~ Sway More eye candy for Liz. The music is slightly lounge lizardish, but again with the long legs:

Evgeni Plushenko 1998 Worlds -EX : Hee, Evgeni as a youngster! 15 years old, World bronze medalist, and doing Bielman spins. Adorable.

Evgeni Plushenko-Sex Bomb (2001): Of course, Sex Bomb. Always lights up my day.
