The baby is napping. The cats are napping in their outdoor catiary. The house is open and we have a regular afternoon breeze that blows through every afternoon. It’s about 73 degrees and the day is just perfect. Escondido is having an abnormally cool summer, but I’m not complaining! I have gotten enough things done today to feel accomplished, yet not so much that I feel harried.
Finishing my associates did not feel special until my family and friends started celebrating my success. Maybe it’s because my GPA really dropped during the last two semesters and it’s just been tough to finish my classes. I’m enrolling immediately into the bachelor program, which means that the end of school is still a long ways off. I’ve had a lot of apprehension about my ability to get more involved in my courses and raise my GPA. Today I reviewed the course catalog again and it cheered me up. All of the classes in the associate’s program are in the bachelor’s, but the second year of the associate’s program really focuses on the business aspect of being a graphic designer so that graduates can go out and start working. That means that I have a higher ratio of fun classes to business classes to complete. By fun classes, I mean the ones that help me become a better artist rather than a better businessperson. There are three more illustration classes, photography, design principles, more typography, interesting electives… fun stuff! So, that is making me feel more cheerful too.
All in all, I am going to appreciate my nice afternoon and soak up the peacefulness!
