“Padfoot that thing better be fast. We have to get to Mungoes and we have to get there now,” James called over to his friend who was lying underneath a large motorcycle.

“You have only told me that like ten times in the last five minutes, just calm down, we’ll get there,” Sirius said as he grabbed another wrench. It was a mixture of mechanics and magic to make the cycle fall in the air. “If you are so worried why don’t you try to get over to Wormtail’s place and floo?”

“I can’t apparate in this, even to Wormtail’s. What did I tell you about hooking your place up to floo? It doesn’t even take that long, but no… you can’t bother to do a few spells and sign a form,” James shot at his friend.

“If you don’t calm down I will blast your arse to St. Mungoes. How was I supposed to know that your extremely pregnant wife would decide today was a great time to have the kid?” Sirius asked.

“No, no, you’re right. I just need to get there,” James answered.

Sirius got out from under the bike and got onto it. Turning the key in the ignition he started the bike. “Get on Potter.”

James didn’t have to be told twice; he jumped on the motorbike behind his best friend and hung his arms around him. Sirius kicked up the kick stand and off the bike went. Sirius hit the button and thanked Merlin when it started to move off the ground and went into the air. James gave a little scream of happiness as they started their travels across the country to St. Mungoes Hospital.

(6 hours earlier)

Lily sat at the stool in the kitchen, flipping through one of the several mother to be books that she had yet to finish. Harry gave another good kick at her stomach and she looked down at her swollen abdomen. “You, buddy, are going to be quite the football player if you keep this up.”

James wandered into the kitchen, his hair tousled even worse than usual, as he hadn’t even attempted to tame it yet. He walked straight to the coffee maker and started a pot, since Lily was off coffee, he had to make himself a fresh pot. “Mornin’ beautiful.” He said as he turned to his wife.

“Morning sunshine, you are up early,” Lily said as she glanced at her watch, “it’s only 10:30.”

“It’s Saturday, cut me some slack Lils,” James said as he leaned on the counter. He couldn’t believe how lucky he was to have this life. He had a small home of his own, a job that he could work his way up with and now he was starting his own family. “I worked a long week this week.”

Lily nodded, and took in the whiff of coffee that was in the room. She really did miss her morning cup of coffee, but she was told that it wasn’t good for her son to drink caffeine. Out of habit she licked her lips at the smell in the air. “Coffee…”

“Sometimes I think that you love coffee more than me. You say it like it’s a long lost lover,” James gave a small chuckle as he poured his mug. Walking over to the fridge he left the cup on the counter and he saw a pale hand start reaching for it. “Lily, put that down. You let that kid out of there and you can have all the coffee you can drink.”

“Don’t tempt me Potter. I would let him out right now if I could,” she said as she placed a hand on her belly.

James Potter walked over to his wife and gave her a kiss on the forehead, placing one of his own hands on the belly. Harry adjusted again, and James could feel the movement under his hand, which caused a smile to spread across his face. “So later I am going to head over to Sirius’s. We are going to work on that motorbike, well he’s going to work on it and I am going to distract him.”

Lily frowned. “James, the weather is supposed to be bad today, it said so in the paper. I don’t want you to get trapped over there if things get too bad to apparate.”

“Lily, you aren’t due for another week, I am sure that it will be fine, even if I do get trapped there.”

“I will hex you into the next century if you miss the birth of our son,” Lily told him, her face starting to turn red with frustration. “You know that I will.”

“I know you will. I will only be out for a few hours, so just don’t go into labor,” James said as he sipped on his coffee. He took a seat next to his wife and continued to drink his mug. Lily passed on of the books towards him.

“You still need to baby proof this kitchen. I have the chapter marked in the wizarding version, it looks like it’s just a couple transfiguration spells, and those were always your specialty,” Lily said, not even looking up from her own book.

“Yeah, I’ll do it Lils, tomorrow. I’m just going to head out.”

“That bike better be the best thing on this planet after all the time that you two have put into it,” Lily muttered as James apparated.

-----------------------

“Are we getting close?” James screamed into his friend’s ear. Sirius gave a short nod and pointed at a building below them. It was the hospital.

They landed a little roughly, but James didn’t say a word, he just ran off the bike and into the hospital. Most wizards don’t enter through the actual doors, so the nurses were a little surprised to see a man pushing his way through the double set of doors. He ran to the desk and almost yelled at them. “My wife is having our kid right now where is she?”

A small blonde woman told him where to go and off James Potter ran to see the birth of his son. When he got into the room he saw Lily’s friend Marlene standing next to her and he could see the look of relief that flooded Lily’s face.

“James Potter, you scared me so much. If you would have missed this… Well I’m just glad that you’re here.”

James approached the bed and took his wife’s hand. “I wouldn’t miss this for the world.”

-------------------------

That evening Lily turned to her husband with a huge smile on her face. She couldn’t express how great it felt to watch her husband hold the small infant in his arms. Harry was born and immediately she saw James all over the infant’s face. Her son will look like his father, which she told herself wasn’t a bad thing. Even at a couple hours old she saw that his black hair was going to be a mess.

James held Harry to his chest and tried to resist the urge to cry. There was something to be said about looking at your child for the first time. Lily had told him that the child looked like him but James couldn’t see it. To him the infant looked like a garden gnome more than anything else, but he loved his garden gnome either way.

He looked up at his wife, exhausted but smiling. “You are the most amazing woman I have ever met in my entire life. I just want you to know that. I knew I would marry you in third year, but I never knew it would turn out this perfectly.”

Lily shook her head remembering the first time that James asked her out. She remembered many of the times that James made a pass at her, but that first time she would never forget. It was the aspect of surprise, as she sat studying to be asked to go Hogsmeade. She laughed at him, thinking that he was joking. She thought he was joking for a couple years actually.

“It did turn out okay, didn’t it?”

“Okay? This is perfect and you know it Evans.”

“It’s Potter, actually and I never thought that you would be right when you said that we were going to get married and have a bunch of kids, but this one time I might have been wrong,” Lily said joking with her love.

“Oh really, just this once you were wrong?”

“Yeah, I am never wrong.”

“Okay Lils, okay,” James replied and watched as the redhead fell into a deep sleep.
