Every year, as soon as the bulk of the snow melts, and a suitable Saturday can be found, hundreds of University of North Dakota students decend on University Park to participate in the near-ritual traditon of Springfest. In recent years, this event was not sponsored by anyone: a few bands just "happen" to show up, port-a-potties just "happen" to ( Read more... )

1) And the elections are still held in June, when the bulk of the students are gone. And they do not announce where to go to vote. My point stands.

2) Townies dislike the UND students. This still proves my point. If you want "calmness" you don't have a college town.

3) No, I never did. I still want to know what this has to do with the CURRENT situation (of college-aged adults being treated like infants).

4)I didn't mention any business in particular. I said they ALL did it (and can do it) because UND students are not permanant. That $8 job at Best Buy is still not as much as you could be making in other places, plus they are rare and limited. The apartments that are going for that cheap here are not that cheap when you think about wages (my rent is well over half my monthly take, and I'm semi-skilled) and the apartments are still poorly maintained at those prices.

5)The roads on UND are still ticketed by GF police (not the parking lots, I'm talking on the streets). And the GF police still get a great deal of revenue exploiting the far-away parking lots that students that live in the dorms use. (It's easier to park on the road if you live in, say Walsh dorm. But you can't just park and leave it, you have to move it once a week, and then you don't get the spot back). Mind you, I wouldn't complain as much if the roads ACTUALLY got cleaned, or the snow ACTUALLY got removed, but they ticket once a week for a once-a-month cleaning.

GF is a college town. If the college goes away, so does the city. And you can't get all the privelege without taking some of the consequences.
