Flew out of SFO at 4:30pm via Virgin Atlantic. Watched Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (loved the first film, but this one...), Flight of the Conchords (first time, will definitely watch more), Little Britain Aboard (somehow I missed seeing this), and Mad Men (for the eyecandy that is Christina Hendricks) to pass the time. Tried to sleep and failed.

Landed at Heathrow at 10:30am. Took the Heathrow Express train to Paddington and then the Underground to Kings Cross. Caught a train to York. Checked into b&b around 3:30pm. Passed out. Woke up at 11pm. Caught a special about the Futureheads on BBC4. Passed out again until the early morning.

First day out in York. Great weather: cool, yet sunny. Visited York Castle Museum, which I really enjoyed. Battled with and more-or-less temporarily conquered both my vertigo and acrophobia by climbing to the top of Clifford's Tower for the excellent views. Walked further into the city center and visited the Yorkshire Museum (decent) and the gardens (a beautiful green space). Took some photos of the stunning ruins of St. Mary's Abbey. Visited York Minster (whoa) and explored it and its Undercroft (oh, that sounds dirty). Didn't climb the 275 steps to the tower though, 'cause, hello, not stupid. Went into the Red House Antiques Centre and started chatting with the older gentleman who dealt with the books about US politics, my trip, my studies, the UK, and yes, even old books until the shop closed and we were kicked out. Returned to the b&b (alone! alone! not with the antique dealer!). Saw the BBC new drama promo with bits of Einstein and Eddington (looks completely awesome) and contrary to what the released images for the movie had previously led me to believe, David Tennant as Sir Arthur Eddington = hotness. (Also: yay for Eddington's probable repressed homosexuality being addressed in a reportedly nuanced way!) [eta: I've now added this promo in the comments section.]
