Gotta love those BAFTA discs.
Lovely, lovely film. From the moment they had robins with subtitles, I knew I would adore it. Easily the most enjoyable film I've seen in quite a while.
I've yet to see a synopsis that accurately describes the film (some of them are flat-out wrong when it comes to the plot). It's not a coming of age story; it's not an exploration of identity. Patrick "Kitten" Braden knows who she is. And we, too, know who she is -- she's someone too good for this world. The film's full of whimsy and humor, which makes its dramatic aspects more cutting. Cillian Murphy is, as to be expected, phenomenal. (And unbelievably gorgeous throughout.) The rest of the cast is fantastic as well, especially Stephen Rea, Liam Neeson, Ruth Negga, Gavin Friday, and Brendan Gleeson. Bryan Ferry and Ian Hart make brief, but memorable, appearances as well.
