By all the talk over at
Idlewilder, I'm was seriously expecting all of the songs off of Idlewild's Warning/Promises to suck. But then again, since a lot of Idlewild fans won't be happy until they record another Captain or Hope Is Important, I should've known better.
I've listened to the tracks available (some of which may actually be b-sides), and Christ, people -- it's not like Idlewild is becoming Keane or something. Also, you should've known that after The Remote Part, they were going to go this route. For fuck's sake, they previewed songs from this album by doing acoustic shows -- you think if this album was one full of "rockers," that would've worked? No, they don't sound like a completely different band. They still sound like a poor man's version of a more rockin' Smiths (and I say that with much love).
Whatever. I still love them. Roddy's lyrics are pretentious as hell, but what's new and who cares? It works well with his voice. Besides -- even the nonpretentious lyrics sound so with that voice.
So, yeah: there will be at least one person buying the album come this March.
