.America.is.wonderful.
I spent two weeks in New York with my muggle friend Amelia running around the town. We saw Cats, The Music Man, Aida (which was brilliant) Fiddler on the Roof and The Phantom of the Opera. I do believe that I finished my musical requirement for the rest of my life.
Amelia gave me so much fun - I felt so saddened by the fact that I couldn't take her on a tour of Magical New York, which I got to experience one day I begged off of running with her because of a 'headache'. I thought that muggle New York was one of the biggest melting pots - but magical NY is a even larger spectrum of magical folk, dark and light. The first stop I made was at a bookstore called The Little Shop of History, (wonderful bookstore, btw) and while I was there I picked up a book on magical american history. I pulled up a cushy chair and read through the entire thing in an hour flat. America is amazing.... did you know that the first pilgrims were, in fact, mainly wizards and witches fleeing persecution? The Mayflower was actually the -second- contingient, bringing squib children and muggle relations. Also interesting is their magical law - which is almost nonexistant. There are no restrictions on 'dark' creatures here - and yet the attack rate is nearly half of ours in Great Britian. It would seem that their lack of laws actually inhibits the crime rate instead of increasing it.
A few nights ago, I spent the night at a magical pub (bar, they called it) and had the most interesting conversation with a group of students attending the university there.. while a lot of the wizards in the bar were boorish and drunk, these students actually had a -brain-. It was so refreshing... and their care-free american attitude just blew me away.
Did I mention I love this country?
I'm on my way to the south now - I've been told that the southern part of the country doesn't offer much in the way of magical or muggle culture, but I'm very interested in seeing the landscape which IS beautiful (and hot, I've been told). I shall visit some plantations and some beaches... and I will make a stop at several civil-war battle sights. Oh, history, history!
Well, I must go - the people at this internet cafe are looking me rather strangely and my bus will leave soon. I will update soon!
