Yes Eric, week six. The gut ache from little fieldwork accomplished was momentarily relieved last night when my friend Koda introduced me to her tattoo artist. We talked a bit and he knew a former monk who is knowledgeable and he knows a novice monk who is learning the art. I eagerly await his call. He told me Khmer youth come to him for (Western-styled) tattoos because they think they make them look tough and gangster.
Also, I am off to Sihanoukville this weekend to meet another Khmer tattoo artist who does fake traditional tattoos, but he should be a good informant. I am awaiting a confirmation from him regarding an appointment.
