I find it interesting that gay marriage opponents frame the union of such as not being a "family."

I'm a bit confused in that regard. It was my understanding that "family" was an idea that several individuals, usually spanning more than one generation, that can rely and trust each other further than any other bond available, more often described as relating to "love." Marriage proper might describe a stereotyped "Man+Woman" union, however, "family" assuredly does not. Further, if such discrimination via disallowing a group to participate in is in the definition of "marriage," then perhaps that idea or term needs to be updated.

The whole debate is silly. "Family"? Obviously, yes. "Marriage"? Possibly not, however, then the term should be updated appropriately.
