Summary: Kaoru is in labor and Kenshin is no where to be found.
Author notes: just bored so I wrote
Kaoru bit her lower lip trying desperately to take the pain that she is now but without vain yet she refused to scream, she was a Kendo teacher and no amount of pain will make her scream like a damsel in distress.
Yet this pain she can’t take.
She was lying in the hospital bed, clutching the bed sheets as the next contraction came, this time the pain was more unbearable that blood began to pour from her lower lips, due to biting too hard.
The nurse in charge came and whipped her forehead from sweat then came with another clean cloth to wipe her mouth.
“Mrs. Himura you can scream it is natural for a woman to scream at his time, especially for the first time” explained the nurse
“Where is my husband?” asked Kaoru ignoring the nurse and looked her pleading
The nurse just frowned and looked at her pitifully giving Kaoru the answer she didn’t want to hear.
“I’m sorry but there is no sign of him yet”
Kaoru eyes shut as she fought hard not to cry but without vain as tears began to cascade down her eyes, she could always say that they were tears from the pain of childbirth
Yet they were the tears of the pain of a broken heart.
Kaoru has gone into labor four hours ago, she was alone in the house while Kenshin went out for some errands, she tried calling him but he wouldn’t pick up so she had to call her brother Sanosuke to take her to the hospital
And still Kenshin hasn’t arrived.
“Where is Megumi?” she asked for her doctor
“She will be right in... looks like you are ready” said the nurse
And at her cue, Megumi came walking in, wearing a green scrub.
“So how have you been doing Kaoru?” asked Megumi
“Terrible, when will this be over?” groaned Kaoru as he laid her head on the pillow
“Sooner than you think ... Alright I need to push”
“….”
“Push harder Kaoru”
“I’m trying”
“Well try harder”
And Kaoru pushed harder
“Come on Kaoru push”
“I don’t think I can do this Megumi”
“Yes you can” came a familiar voice next to her
Kaoru turned her head to the voices direction, eyes widened as she gazed at her husband, Kenshin just smiled in apology and came to her side, kissing her forehead and holding her hand
“Baka Kenshin where were you?” yelled Kaoru
“I’m so sorry koishii”
“You have a lot of explaining to do buddy”
“Of course he does but now is not the time you need to concentrate Kaoru” interrupted Megumi
“Aright”
“Okay then push”
With one final push, the screams of a new pair of lungs were heard through the hall as they are testing them, Kaoru popped back onto the pillow gasping for air as he shut her eyes for a moment. A minute later she opened them to find Kenshin in front of her holding a bundle wrapped in a baby blue blanket.
“It’s a boy” he said
And with that she smiled as he held out her arms to hold her baby for the first time.
