Getting a tatto can easily be compared to adding an immobile but obvious new limb to your body, and because of this I strongly believe it should represent who one is. Who I am.
My ideal tatoo would be the Aquarius glyph on my left wrist. I trace the spot where I envision it, and I smile, almost coo from the excitement of showing the world who I am, instad of having to tell them. "This is a woman who is magical, exquisite, rare." Among other words.
Then I think about the statement "Here there be dragons." I stop tracing the imaginary symbol on my wrist and I reconsider. I "research" the phrase. A modern wiseman called Wikipedia tells me it is "used to denote dangerous or unexpected territories."
I imagine it, slanted and bold, tattoed across my back, maybe along my crooked spine. A warning label.
Or maybe on the front of my body, the letters held together by a string of ink starting at whichever collarbone, leading between my small breasts, skipping my belly button. A stamp. A very clear statement about the adventure that I am. The dark spot on the map of humanity where dragons may rest.
Magical. Exquisite. Rare.
I reconsider my ideal tattoo.
