I come bearing news that I officially was able to convert a moral vegetarian back to eating meat. Can I say that I do feel a bit accomplished.
The story behind this was that this girl was a freshman as my college this year and some how wound up getting in with the group of friends I usually hang with when I am on campus. Now, the irony here is that she was a moral vegetarian and she comes to an agricultural school where we raise beef cattle, something she was against but she is paying tution for to help those practices! I mean, really? Why would any moral vegetarian or vegan come to an agricultural school when the practices they are against can be seen from the parking lot?!
Anyway, enough with that, I got to talking to her and she proceeds to tell me that she is a moral vegetarian because of how we slaughter our animals and how it is this vicious, horrible act (Insert generic PETA description here) of humanity. I look at her and say "Really?" and she replies with "Yeah, I have seen the videos and everything, you should really check this stuff out". I then retort to her "Yeah, I have and you are wrong". She gives me the look of how-dare-you-say-I-am-wrong and I proceed to explain to her that I have first hand experienced what animal slaughter is reall like because I was an intern for the USDA FSIS as a Food Inspector Intern, I have seen slaughter and I told her that all animals must be slaughtered humanely, and what this means that the death must be quick, and painless, and this is achieved by stunning the animal and then slitting it's throat so there is no suffering what-so-ever and the animal has a dignified death.
This shut her up quickly and she started to talking to other people which eventually lead to her coming back to meat realizing it wasn't as horrible as she once thought.
