002: some unfinished business

I never got to finish my 30 days of awesome female characters meme, mostly because I am lazy, but the other half of my list are still pretty damn awesome women, so I figured I should just finish it now anyway.

17. Britta Perry (Community)

Oh, I quite love Community, but the first season is definitely better than the second. But Britta is clearly an amazing character, mostly because she's so intrinsically flawed? And yeah, for some reason, not a lot of people liked her, but I think that was because they were pushing the Jeff/Britta and it didn't entirely work. She's a much better character when they stopped that. Although it seems like they may be secretly having sex, or at least that seems to be what they're hinting at, so I guess we'll just have to see.

WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THAT EPISODE/TWO PARTER? I was a bit annoyed with it at the time, because the introduction of the character of River Song felt really off-kilter and messy in the overall arc of the season, especially considering the next episode, which I will not spoil for you, in case you haven't seen it yet, suffice to say IT IS THE BEST EPISODE IN THE WORLD. TRUE STORY. Are you a DW fan, or are you just getting into it? I feel like I should know this.

Ah, just did a quick stalk of your lj page and it seems like you are a fan! Tooooooootally knew that.

On that related note - just saw your Fringe post, and I WANT TO READ IT. But I cannot. Because I haven't watched it yet, and I should be doing some work before I go out. But I'll get back to you tonight. FRIIIIIIIIIIINGE. I met a guy at uni yesterday who loves Fringe. I love it when that happens.

Mm, I know what you mean about Chuck. I mean ... I like him, because he's pretty cool, and cute, and sweet, and Zach Levi's lovely, but ... sometimes it feels like there's another side to Sarah that he just doesn't get? And that he's holding her back somehow. But I guess if domesticity is what she wants, that you know, that's cool too. I just wish her motivations were clearer.

Segue to say, IT'S SO DAMN HOT HERE.

Sarah Walker is on my list twice, but it's Sarah Walker from Brothers and Sisters, because I watch quality TV. .... Haha. I was thinking of replacing someone with Sydney Bristow though, because she is amazing. And I'm only slightly through season 3. WATCH IT.

No!! I didn't even realise she was on a new show. Gosh. She really needs to be on something amazing, because she is amazing as well. I guess the Nathan Fillion curse seems to have transferred onto her? :\ Maybe she'll come back on Chuck as Greta, or make another guest star appearance on the Big Bang Theory. :D

Long comment is long.

The people I know that watch Community (and are all Britta fans because they're awesome ilke that) tell me that there's not enough Britta and too much Annie/Jeff this year.

I HAVE SEEN ALL OF DOCTOR WHO SEVERAL TIMES. IT'S OKAY. I don't talk about it much, I only got into it after season four was over. Marathoned the whole thing in a few weeks. I loved it but that was probably in part because I was just going ALEX KINGSTON! ALEX KINGSTON! ALEX KINGSTON! the whole time.

sometimes it feels like there's another side to Sarah that he just doesn't get?

YES. EXACTLY.

I guess if domesticity is what she wants, that you know, that's cool too.

IT WOULD BE. But I never got that feeling until suddenly they were telling me that she did and I just do not like.

The Cape. It was about a superhero (though he did not have superpowers he just had.. a cape) and she was sort of his sidekick? BASICALLY IT WAS JUST SUMMER IN WIGS AND DISGUISES DOING IMPOSSIBLE THINGS WITH COMPUTERS and it kind of sucked but I just like having her face on my screen. It gives me new screencaps to use in spams for weird fic I write.

Ah, well, for honesty's sake, I have to admit I am also a Annie/Jeff shipper. But also a multishipper. They all have so much chemistry! But I do agree that there's not very much of Britta atm.

OH GOOD. IF YOU HADN'T WE MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO BE FRIENDS ANYMORE. I love seasons 1 - 4. Season 5, not so much, but that's mostly because I am extremely dubious about Steven Moffat's ability to write female characters. And also because Russell T Davies is amazing. And I actually like River Song in s5 - her introduction as the Doctor's allerged wife just felt very incongruous with the progression of the fourth season's story as a whole. I mean, the next episode is Rose's return and the Doctor has been pining for her for all of 1.5 seasons ... you'd think there'd be a better time to introduce River Song. ANYWAY.

Which is where your shipping Casey/Sarah comes in, I suppose! Because Casey does ... get that. You don't feel like Sarah has to give up something to be with him? I don't know. It's all making a lot more sense to me now.

Haha, I think I heard about it, vaguely. And speaking of shows Summer Glau is in, I feel the distinct need to rewatch Firefly and Serenity. WHY DO I HAVE SO LITTLE TIME IN A DAY??? Also, I may have mentioned this to you before, but Summer has a VERY distinctive forehead.

I'm a mutlti-shipper with most shows too but in the little I saw of them neither Jeff or Annie really did anything to make me like them.

I love ALL OF THEM. Including season five. (Actually, the first episode of s5 is on tv right now) I really don't care for Ten/Rose and it's not like River was suddenly a love interest so it didn't really seem strange to me. She is my favorite thing about season five.

EXAAAAAACTLY.

YES, WE HAVE DISCUSSED HER FOREHEAD. I constantly feel the need to rewatch Firefly. But then I think I shouldn't be rewatching things I've already seen when I have such a long list of things that need watching.

Mm, I didn't really think of anything between them until like ... halfway through the season or something. But Troy and Abed are so adorable, and I love them so. In season 2, they got the whole college to make a blanket fort town. I want to make a blanket fort town.

Sacrilege! Just kidding. I love Rose/Doctor, but yeah, River is the best thing about season five. Actually not a huge fan of Rory and Amy, but you know. I'm probably a bit prejudiced. (MOFFATMOFFATMOFFAT) Although, Sherlock has been good, have you watched it? :) Sometimes when I rewatch season 1 of DW though, I miss Christopher Eccleston like crazy. It's the big ears and nose. Makes him rather adorable.

Meh. I love rewatching things, because it's comfortable and familiar, and makes me happy, like a pretty, baggy sweater. True story. I'm rewatching season 1 of Fringe at the moment - or at least I was before uni started, boo - and FEELING NO GUILT.

BUT YOU NEED TO WATCH ALIAS SO WE CAN DISCUSS. YOU MAY THINK I'M HARPING, BUT YOU SHOULD GET ON IT NOW. :P

I liked Nine/Rose but then it got so dramatic and she JUST KEPT COMING BACK.
Ah, see I'm prejudiced too but in the exact opposite way. I liked Sherlock. Nine is still my favorite.

I love re-watching things too. You notice new things. Have rewatched season 9 of Smallville at least five times in the last four months. But my OTP is perfect and disgustingly beautiful so I have little desire to jump into something new.

I DO. I KNOW. No, it helps when people TELL ME TO WATCH THINGS REPEATEDLY. Tumblr has talked me into several shows that way.

THAT'S CAUSE SHE'S THE BAD WOLF AND IS GOING TO STAY WITH HIM FOREVER.

Smallville, hey. My friend talked me through it in high school biology when it was first on, but I have not actually watched. Hm.

...I'm just going to keep my opinions to myself on that one.

I stopped watching it after the first season because I was constantly yelling at the screen (which only makes sense when the creator says things like this. New people took over so it's fine now.) but it's currently half-way through it's last season so I got caught up and the last two seasons have been wonderful. NO BUT REALLY LOOK AT THEM. ALSO. I know you haven't watched Terminator: TSCC. but one of the guys on that show who hates cyborgs IS A TERMINATOR ON SMALLVILLE. Best casting choice ever.

Hi, I'm Beatrice. I'm a bat shit crazy shipper. Nice to meet you. :P

Terminator! That's what I was planning on watching over the holidays. I also have half a season of Lost that I was going to watch. Should I add Smallville to my list? I keep seeing you post pretty spams of it on tumblr. :P

I could just watch and rewatch Terminator forever. Smallville has ten seasons. If you do, I wouldn't watch all of them. I should have listened when people told me to start at season 8. WHY DO I NEVER LISTEN?
