For cineastes, and fans of Borges only.

It occurs to me that I've been going on about this film for nearly twenty years, ever since it was first commissioned (in its original, shorter form) by the BBC. In that time, I've taped it off the telly, acquired the DVD (which includes the later, added scenes shot by the director in extremis), and had an e-mail correspondence with the composer of the film's score which resulted in him personally burning me a CD with additional (unused) musical cues. The funny thing is, despite one of its stars later gaining considerably more notoriety when he was cast in the BBC's 2005 revival of Doctor Who, very few people have even heard of the film, never mind seen it.

I'm referring, of course, to Alex Cox's 1992 mini-masterpiece, Death and the Compass which, I discovered today, is now available for viewing online:

I feel I should point out, to those of you with the patience and time, that you can also download a standard quality, 273Mb MP4 of the film by entering that URL either over at keepvid.com, or into your online video downloading software of choice.

Over and out.
