Henry Tosi on the Art of the Academic Podcast.

"For me, the biggest challenge is to make the podcasts as personal as possible. I try to meet this challenge by making reference to recent political or sports events that have relevance to the students and the course. This not only helps me connect with students, but it brings a sense of currency to the course."

Like a...sit-down comedian, then?

Only not funny.

(And misusing the word "currency" isn't getting any laughs either, sport.)

...and effectively reiterates my point about nobody making money from this blog in an ideal world. Since the integration went ahead anyway, I'll reconsider the original five-year lifespan deal. There's way too much traffic here now, and goodness knows I'm not into that. Enough's enough, eh?

Edit 2: The outgoing mail server glitch has been fixed now, so hopefully those of you who mailbombed me about this subject have had your replies. A couple of general points cropped up, so here's the one-size-fits-all response:

The monetization schemes currently running are desperately messy, but I hadn't realized how much they were slowing the system down for both in-house and offworld readers/subscribers. This is now a major factor with regard to whether or not A-G carries on in its present state, because if it's not fun to access then it certainly isn't fun to throw together. (Synergy, see?) I still recommend the RSS feed as the easiest way of dealing with all the LiveJournal-originated shit (i.e. filtering it out as much as possible), but appreciate that some of the edits - such as this one - will never make the aggregation time targets. Anodyne Swift has taught me that WordPress is a pisspoor alternative, and messing around with Posterous recently has raised some different viability issues. We've experimented with a few portal systems in the past couple of years (Mitch's came and went before mine did), and I cancelled the film-centric blog as soon as I noticed the embedding glitches. There's one other possible alternative which is both ad-free and technically acceptable, so watch this space...
